How to Resolve a Web Exception Error on Registering Licenses

Introduction

We have now updated our Symmetry Licensing Server (https://register.g4stechnology.com) to only support TLS 1.2. This means that you may receive the following error message when activating your license via the Internet.

Solution

If you receive this error then you two options:

1. You can continue to activate your license by going to https://register.g4stechnology.com and registering online. Enter the Activation Code generated by the website into Symmetry by selecting the ‘Obtain your License Activation Code Offline’ option under the System Licenses menu.
2. Symmetry Version 8.1 (190101) and > 9.1 supports TLS 1.2, so if you have any of these versions you can force Symmetry to use TLS 1.2 by doing the following on all Symmetry machines:

• • Installing Windows Components to support TLS 1.2. This requires updating your .NET Framework and SQL Native Client components to support TLS 1.2. These are available in the download link below:

  • Add the following entry into the multimax.ini (only needed in V8.1 and not V9):
    • [multiMAX]
    • TLS1.2Only=1
  •  Update the Windows registry to ensure that you have disabled TLS 1.0 and 1.1 on the Windows System.
